I love Mexican food, so I ordered a bunch of items for lunch today to try them out. Previously, I though Senoritas in Bloomfield was the best Mexican in the area, however compared to LA, where I used to live, nothing on the east coast can compare. I must admit, i was very pleasantly surprised at Tacqueria Autentica! Mike, the owner is very nice, and takes pride in his food. I ordered the chicken enchiladas, Carnitas Torta, and Carnitas Tostada. Chickend enchilada: awesome. made with corn tortillas, smothered in ranchero sauce (my choice) which had such an authentic flavor that i think i tasted an errant seed or two from their chipotle flavored ranchero sauce. I highly recommend these!. Carnitas Torta: awesome sandwich on a toated bread that is out of this world. Qba tried to say their Cuban was to die for(even though not mexican), but i believe without fanfare that the Torta at this place is legit. What great flavor in a sandwich! If you want to try one thing from this place, and don’t want a meal like enchiladas, definitely spend your cash on the Torta! Carnita Tostada: good food and flavor, more difficult to eat, but once again, true to mexican cooking. Almost everyting you order has a healthy dose of queso fresca and/or crema, which is a real treat, because i bet most people don’t buy this in the stores. The menu is ridiculously cheap for the thought and preparation that seemed to go into the things i ordered.
I very rarely post on this site. Mike believes his Mexican is some of the best in town, and I have to agree. I will definitely be back, and I hope this restaurant the best.
Very good, authentic, reasonably priced, Mexican food. I had Guacamole, chicken tacos, and rice and beans. The guacamole had a strong lime presence, which I enjoy. The chicken tacos had an unusual but very pleasant flavor from a spice that I was not able to identify. (I thought it was Cumin at first, but wasn’t sure…Definitely not your run-of-the-mill, commercial variety of chicken taco.) Lastly, the black beans had a slight kick to them, and they were served with brown rice, a nice touch, and a healthy alternative to white rice. Everything had a home cooking feel to it. I’m absolutely going back to sample other items on the menu.
